A representative from United States Student Association (USSA) addressed the AS senate during last week's ASUCR meeting.
The USSA, which describes itself as being the country's "oldest and largest student led organization," is set to lobby lawmakers in Washington to pass legislation which would regulate the way banks grant students loans and prevent what the USSA describes as exploitation of student borrowers. The lobbying will take place this week as students involved are set to call congressmen.
Also stressed was the importance of this year's elections.
"This year is going to be one of the most important elections of our lifetimes," said the representative. "I can't even express how important this election is gonna be to pass student-friendly legislation, it's really going to be a make or break."
Afterwards Officer of External Affairs Tiffany Lau reported that efforts to travel to Sacramento to lobby state legislators were being finalized.
The next general session of the senate is set for Feb. 23 at 7:00pm. Meetings are open to all students and are held in the Senate Chambers, located on the second floor of the Highlander Union Building (HUB).
