It is of no surprise, then, that the March Fourth demonstration should choose the color red to draw attention to itself.
Béla Bartók: to musicophiliacs just the mention of the Hungarian composer's name can draw headaches or admiration, polite recognition of the composer's contributions to music or an outright dismissal of his music.
Even more impassioned reactions may be drawn from musicians who are informed that they are to play, or rather, attempt to play, Bartók's music.

CD Review: Beat the Devil's Tattoo by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

The newest album from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is marked by a new wave of independence and new beginnings. "Beat the Devil's Tattoo" is the first album from B.R.M.C. on the band's own label, Abstract Dragon, in partnership with Vagrant Records.

This change marks an overall shift in tone from one of constant grittiness, sharpened since its birth in San Francisco in 1998, to one more reflective, aware of the band's self-made fame and success in the band.

In September, the group publicly and conspicuously "let go" of vocalist Craig Owens, who, with one of the most distinct vocal deliveries around, was what many fans considered a defining aspect of the band itself.

"You were much muchier before," says a somewhat disheartened Mad Hatter to Alice. "You've lost your muchness." In much the same way, Tim Burton can be said to have lost such "muchness" over the years. While his latest effort, a "sequel" of sorts to Lewis Carroll's classic "Alice in Wonderland" novels, is exactly what it's supposed to be (that is to say, a visually stunning, lighthearted foray through a distinctly Burton-esque interpretation of Wonderland), it isn't nearly up to the standard that the "goth auteur" is undoubtedly capable of.
