Starting their east coast trip by going the distance, the UC Riverside men’s tennis team lost a tough matchup to Delaware, falling 4-3. However, although the team lost, there was still a milestone to celebrate as senior Kyle McCann broke the all-time record in wins in the program’s history.

McCann notched this landmark after his 6-4 doubles win with freshman partner Andres Whelan-Merediz on court two. The victory meant that McCann became the Highlander with the most singles wins, doubles wins and total wins.

As for the team, Delaware won a decisive match on court three to snag the doubles point. UCR responded with straight wins in singles by McCann and junior Gilbert Chung, giving the team a 2-1 lead.

Despite this, the Blue Hens grabbed wins on courts four and five to put the match away. Whelan-Merediz was the last match to finish, going the distance for a 6-7, 6-3, 11-9 victory on court six to push the final score to 4-3.

The Highlanders look to recoup as they travel to St. Francis Brooklyn Feb. 17.
