The UC Riverside women’s golf team traveled to Colorado to participate in the Golfweek Conference Challenge from Sept. 23-25.

The trip was quite underwhelming for the Highlanders as they finished in last place out of the 18 schools that participated in the event. Some of the schools that competed besides UCR include UCLA, Sacramento State, San Diego State, Pepperdine University and the University of Denver.

One of the bright spots for the Highlanders was freshman Jennifer Deng, who competed in her first ever collegiate tournament for UCR. Deng placed 34th overall in the tournament with a total score of 222. In the three rounds, Deng hit a 74, 79 and 69.

Junior Kayla Kwong finished the tournament with a score of 236. In the third round, Wong shot a 71, a significant improvement from her score of 85 in the second round.

The other Highlanders that competed in Colorado were freshman Nicole Le, junior Ping Huang and junior Nao Bando from Japan.

Up next, the Highlanders will travel to Las Vegas on Oct. 27 to compete in the Las Vegas Showdown Tournament.
