Summer is around the corner! And with that comes endless beach fun, movie blockbusters and unforgettable music festivals. Just because two of the year’s biggest festivals have already passed (Coachella and South by Southwest) doesn’t necessarily mean the party is over. There’s still FYF Fest, Outside Lands, Warped Tour, EDC, Mayhem Festival and Rock the Bells, to name a few. Here are some fashion tips on how to conquer summertime music.

Ladies:

High-waisted shorts are everything this summer. While pricier stores such as Urban Outfitters and American Apparel have some flawless options, there’s no shame in utilizing your innovative skills and checking out your mother’s closet or the nearest thrift shop. Buy a pair of old school jeans and hack off the bottoms for a sweet DIY project.

Maxi skirts or dresses are great alternatives from the high-waisted epidemic running amok in America. Pair a crop top or bustier with a printed maxi skirt for a bohemian feel, or wear a sheer maxi piece in a bold color such as mint green or pastel orange.

Guys:

There is nothing cooler than a graphic tee of your favorite band, sports team or TV show (“Beavis and Butthead,” anyone?). Tees are a perfect way to show off your personality, humor and laid-back style. Bonus: These types of tees are a great conversation starter with that cute girl standing next to you.

If you’re over using adolescent graphic tees to express your feelings, try a patterned tank in an Aztec design or lightweight V-neck to tackle the grueling summer heat. Pair it with a nice pair of plaid or solid colored shorts in maroon, blue or classic khaki.

Shoes:

The bad thing about music concerts is everyone jumping all over your poor feet. That being said, I would heavily suggest closed-toed shoes. Combat or motorcycle boots, low heeled booties, Doc Martens or some good ol’ Chuck Taylors are some options to help you stay comfortable and dance the night away. However, if you do want to wear those new gladiator sandals of yours, I offer you two phrases of advice: Get a pedicure and brace yourself.

Accessories:

Of all the accessories you should never go without, sunglasses should be at the top of your list. Protect those lovely gems of yours in colorful or classic aviator styles. Wear a stylish fedora, bowler hat or snap back to continue protecting your eyes and head from the sun. Not a hat person? A rosette or turban-inspired headband is a stylish way to keep those pesky hair strands in place. Choose one in a vibrant print or bright neon to stand out. Don’t forget something to hold all your things in, such as a satchel or a fun backpack. You can even get away with a fanny pack these days!
