Located on the first floor of the Rivera library by the computers is a brilliant homage to the many Hispanic immigrant families that have suffered today and in history. The exhibit features emotion-filled poems, meaningful letters and beautiful images of loved ones. The art brings awareness to the pain and suffering that accompanies the harsh subject of deportation and immigrant laws. On a vivid red fabric, an unknown author writes, “[On deportation] Sometimes it feels like paper cuts, small pricks of pain. Other times we are disemboweled, turned inside out.”

Artists’ stories can be seen through images and understood through poetry. An especially beautiful message stands out on a large parchment-colored background where a letter is addressed to readers who have experienced the pain inflicted by deportation. If you get the chance before Oct. 21, take the time to explore the exhibit in Rivera Library and get a better understanding of what people around us are going through.
