Amelia Ek’s score of 229 was good enough to place her 10th out of 70 competitors. Her score also propelled the UC Riverside women’s golf team to a seventh-place finish out of 12 teams in the Folino Invitational in Industry, CA this past week.

Firing a 328 in the first round of competition, the Highlanders dug themselves into a hole as they placed 11th out of 12 teams to start the competition. The Highlanders then improved in the following rounds by lowering their scores to move up in the standings. Amelia Ek, Britanni Ferraro and Savannah Vilaubi all shot sores in the mid seventies to give UCR a total of 318 in the second round.

In the final round of the invitational, the Highlanders saved their best for last as the team scored a 310 to move up to seventh place. Ek fired a team-low 74 in that round to lead the Highlanders. UCR finished with a total of 956, just nine stokes behind sixth-place Cal Poly.

Britanni Ferraro shot the team’s second-best score with a 233. Savannah Vilaubi followed with a 245. Denyse Neville fired an impressive 77 in the final round to finish with 255. Tiffany Koyano rounded things up with a 258 for the Highlanders.

Gonzaga won the event as the Bulldogs fired an 897 to take home the title. Big West rival Cal State Fullerton finished in second place with a score of 910. Montana’s Tara Green was the event’s top performer as she shot a total score of 220.
