This past weekend saw the UC Riverside women’s tennis team extend their losing streak to seven games, falling to the Cal Poly Mustangs 6-1 and UCSB Gauchos 7-0.

In Saturday’s contest, Cal Poly held the upper hand in singles competition, winning all but one match. UCR’s sole win in singles came at the hand of Tracy Van, who defeated Bryn Bacharach in three sets. Doubles play was a clean sweep for the Mustangs, with all three Cal Poly pairs taking down the Highlanders 6-1, 6-6 with an unfinished second set and 6-4.

The Highlanders didn’t fare much better in Sunday’s match against UCSB, falling to the Gauchos and getting shut out 7-0 in the process.

With the loss, the Highlanders remain without a single win in conference play with an overall record of 3-11. However, the team is still on pace to best last season’s four-win performance, where they also lost the entirety of the conference matches.

Next up for women’s tennis is a home tilt against Long Beach State on April 7, which represents another opportunity to get in the win column in conference play.
