Riverside and Moreno Valley Municipal Elections

When: Tuesday, June 6, 2017

The Cities of Riverside and Moreno Valley are holding their municipal elections for city council on Tuesday, June 6.

The candidates for Riverside are as follows:

  • Ward 2: Councilman Andy Melendrez, community activist Kevin Dawson, and local Baptist pastor Jon Harris.
  • Ward 4: Councilman Paul Davis faces Chuck Conder, an aide to Ward 5 councilman Chris Mac Arthur.
  • Ward 6: Councilman Jim Perry is running for re-election against Rafael Elizalde, the district director for Rep. Mark Takano, D-Riverside. Suleko Charles “Chuck” Mahatadse intends to run as a write-in candidate.

The candidates for Moreno Valley are as follows:

  • District 4: Parks and Recreation Commissioner James C. Baker II, small business owner and former assembly candidate Hector Diaz, children’s program coordinator Ulises Cabrera, and social worker Cheylynda Barnard.

 

Off-Centers: Faye Ginsburg

When: Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Where: College Building South 114

Sponsored by the UCR Center for Ideas and Society (CIS), this lecture is the latest in a series put on by the “Off Centers: Queer Racial Dis/Orientations” group of faculty at UCR. The series offers junior and newly-tenured UCR faculty the opportunity to present and share their ideas and research with support from senior academics. Lectures seek to connect different disciplines in dialogue regarding gender issues, race, and sociology. This week’s lecture features Faye Ginsburg, the David B. Kriser professor of anthropology at New York University and director of the graduate program in culture and media.

 

Tuesday Talk Series: Let’s Talk About Sex!

When: Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 5-6 p.m.

Where: Costo Hall 245

This event is sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center and is the last Spring 2017 event in the Tuesday Talk Series. This week’s discussion will focus on sex and sexuality as it relates to students of all genders and orientations. The event is the only one of this series available to students attending for class credit.

 

Lambda Celebration

When: Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 6-8 p.m.

Where: HUB 355

Sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center, the LGBT and Ally community will be honoring graduating seniors, LGBTQIA scholarship recipients and recognizing students with minors in LGBT Studies. There will also be a featured speaker, Peter Mercado, Jr., who works as a program specialist at Menifee Union School District.  

 

MentorX Corporation Information Table

When: Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: UCR Bell Tower

MentorX Corporation, a company involved in education consultancy, will be offering internship opportunities to interested students from different fields. MentorX representatives will be on hand to provide further information and meet interested students, with an emphasis on business, computer science, statistics, education and math majors. The company has indicated that it is looking for qualified “Marketing Interns, Accounting/Finance Interns, Software Developers, Data Analysts, Education Counselors.”
