The Associated Students of the University of California, Riverside (ASUCR) meeting on March 4, 2026 began at 7:01 p.m. and concluded at 9:04 p.m.
In the Winter Quarter Report, ASUCR Executive Director Asha Nettles reported on operational, financial and strategic changes their office would be adopting going into the next school year.
Operationally, Nettles shared that they have completed the search process for a financial services coordinator and that their office coordinator search would go online within the next week. They aim to have their office fully staffed by the end of this fiscal year.
In strategic reports, Nettles shared that beginning next school year, they would adopt a 90 day leadership summer training model to inaugurate elected student leaders.
Seven State of the Association (SOTA) reports were delivered by the Office of the Elections Director, Office of the Personnel Director, Non-Traditional Student Committee, Office of the Vice President of External Affairs, Green Campus Action Plan (GCAP) and the Office of the Executive Vice President.
Following SOTA reports, the Senate called for a recess which began at 8:14 p.m. They reconvened at 8:20 p.m.
In the Legislative Review Committee section, senators approved a resolution and two bills.
SR-W26-004, or “ASUCR Resolution in Solidarity with Undocumented/ Immigrant Communities at UCR,” was primarily authored by the Vice President of External Affairs Briana Trujillo, School of Public Policy Senator Ria Prashanth and President Pro Tempore Jeevan Rao. It called on senators to take a public stance amidst “xenophobic, racist and hateful rhetoric against undocumented/immigrant communities … fueling racial profiling, harassment and discriminatory immigration enforcement.”
College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences Senator Lydia Fanoos and College of Humanities & Social Science (CHASS) Senator Tildin Young Jin Han raised concerns surrounding the possibility of calling attention to the school’s undocumented student population.
Trujillo responded by emphasizing the need to publicly support student organizations that have been protesting the federal government’s immigration enforcement policies, stating, “I’ve been in communication with these student [organizations] … We as a student government want to reassure that we stand with our communities here at UCR.”
After 19 minutes of debate, the resolution passed 10-0-4.
The Senate then heard SB-W26-005, or “Bill to Amend VPF Signing Duties,” and SB-W26-008, or “Creating a Student Athlete Liaison Position.”
SB-W26-005 was authored by Executive President Leila Haidar and CHASS Senators Emmy Tsao and Daniel Mondragon. The bill altered the Office of the Vice President of Finance’s (VPF) duties to make it so the VPF would no longer need to sign off on each purchasing request to prevent a backlog from building up. The bill was passed 13-0-1.
SB-W26-008 proposed the establishment of a student athlete liaison within the ASUCR Office Of the President to further advocate for student athletes and was passed 14-0-0.
Closing the meeting, Office of the Vice President of Sustainability Vice President Anahita Hooshyari Far requested that the Senate approve GCAP Grant 0011 to fund the Biomechanical Engineering Society’s BearHack event. The allocation of $3000 to provide catering, incentives, and other items passed 14-0-0.
