While there are a number of movies that came out this holiday season, this one for some reason caught my attention. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic film “Bajirao Mastani,” about a legendary Marathi warrior and his mistress, Bajirao Mastani, is perhaps one of the biggest Bollywood films of the year.

Unfortunately this film really did not live up to its hype, and was not an enjoyable experience. Clocking in at three hours, “Bajirao Mastani” was paced far too slowly to make this an entertaining watch. Moreover, this movie was trite and very cliched.

However, there were some commendable aspects of the film, the biggest being the set design. While the cinematography was bland, the sets that Bhansali created were absolutely stunning and duly added to the epic tone of the movie, with the scenes in the “Gold Room” being breathtaking.
For those of you who are into Bollywood films, this is definitely worth a watch. However, if you are not ready to give up a chunk of your life to watch bad acting, melodramatic storytelling and cliched plot, then “Bajirao Mastani” is definitely not for you.
